Currently, 3 million cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters across the United States due to overcrowding and sickness. Target Zero was created as a means to 1) build out a ‘best practices’ program, drawing from the small handful of existing ‘no kill’ successes, and 2) mobilize an innovative mentorship delivery system of that program, city by city, for far more significant speed and scale. Launched in 2013, Target Zero has gotten 21 Fellow Cities to ‘zero’, with dozens more well on their way.

Target Zero

Co-founded Target Zero (TZ), a nonprofit organization committed to getting the nation to zero euthanasia of all adoptable shelter animals.

TZ mobilizes proven, holistic ‘getting to zero’ best practices to local shelter and animal welfare leaders willing to collaborate in Fellow Communities nationwide to help them get to zero, ideally in three years or less.

Since launching in 2013, TZ has mentored 21 Fellow Communities to ‘zero’ with dozens more well on their way.

Target Zero launched the popular, celebrity-packed LICK MY FACE campaign in June 2016 to raise awareness about just how doable getting to zero is.

TZ has been featured in the New York Times, People, Huffington Post, and local media outlets across the country for its results-driven work (see In the News for all media).
