Founder and CEO, 49 prince street

Tracey Durning is a systems entrepreneur focused on building collaborative platforms that scale capital, knowledge, networks, and influence to achieve significant social impact. Working with a wide spectrum of stakeholders, she pursues nonprofit and for-profit pathways to that end.

Until recently, Tracey was the Executive Director at Planet Heritage Foundation for a decade where she managed the grant-making and impact investments portfolio, as well as built its social enterprise startups.

In climate change, she is co-founder and CEO of Energy Options Network (EON), a group of technologists, engineers, and entrepreneurs focused on accelerating the commercialization and deployment of more ‘outlier’ zero carbon technologies (i.e. innovative nuclear fission, fusion, supercritical geothermal energy, H2 based liquid fuels). She is also a co-founder of Aligned Intermediary, an investment group created to help institutional investors accelerate and increase the flow of capital investments across clean energy, water infrastructure, and waste-to-value. AI, Inc mobilized approximately $250 million into direct investments in its first year and is currently architecting the Climate Finance Partnership with BlackRock, Germany, France and a consortium of philanthropies aimed at accelerating clean energy investments in the developing world. A key product of AI, Inc—Aligned Climate Capital—recently began co-development of a $1.5 billion climate infrastructure fund with Ares Management. Finally, she is a co-founder of the Electrification Coalition, a nonpartisan group of industry leaders collectively committed to transportation electrification in the US at mass scale.

In marine conservation, Tracey is a co-founder of Oceans 5, a global funders collaborative that seeks to protect the planet’s five oceans. The organization gives new and experienced philanthropists a platform to collectively target their assets—while also influencing collaboration amongst grantees—for greater impact and scale. There are currently fifteen Oceans 5 partners including Planet Heritage Foundation, Packard Foundation, Oak Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Waitt Foundation, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, Marisla Foundation, the Moore Charitable Trust, the Angell Family Foundation, the Joy Family Foundation, the Tiffany & Co Foundation, and the Wyss Foundation.

In animal welfare, she is the founder and former CEO of Target Zero (TZ), a group that mentors animal shelters across the US to zero euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs. Profiled in the New York Times, TZ mentored over 21 cities and counties to no kill between 2013 and 2018, then launched a technology platform to supplement its hands-on mentorship and vastly increase its life saving efforts. In 2019, Durning gifted Target Zero to Maddie’s Fund—one of the biggest and best operational funders in the animal welfare space—where it will scale its operations and life saving efforts even further.

Tracey was featured in Barron’s magazine (Philanthropy: Getting the Most Bang For Your Buck) for her social impact work. As a former journalist/producer (ABC News, CBS News, CNN, MTV) and filmmaker (i.e., Executive Producer, Freedom Writers) she often drives the communications for the initiatives she builds.
